Any links to this theme?

There is a refactored version of the Continuum theme that allows for custom review types.

$40 for instructions & files

Prolly want to toss these in there... Also, can we fix the issue with activating plugins and the movies review section disappears within the admin section? Something else that I noticed is there is some very generic css selectors in the component css. For example, line 1765 has .black - I think all the bg_colors and etc should be prefixed maybe to eliminate a lot of plugin compatibility. After digging around, a lot of the best plugins I can't get to work properly is due to common css selectors over riding each other. Thanks.

Only ‘Movie Reviews’ is not shown in the wp admin panel? (There are no problems with the other review types)

The menu order is being duplicated due to a plugin you have activated. Open the Continuum file functions/post-types.php and edit line 37. Change the number of the menu position from 25 to 30.

+$10 extra we will FTP code to server you specify
+$25 extra for each custom review type you want us to create for you (instead of you following instructions to modify code yourself)

It shouldn't take longer than a day or two (and in some cases only a few hours, depends on how busy we are and how much you need done).

$40 gets you a completely refactored version of Continuum, plus a child theme that allows you to (through code) define an unlimited number of custom review types. You also get instructions on how to implement.

For an extra $25 I will install and configure everything for you with one custom review type (which is all most people need).

Yeah, so, Outer Spice Web Company created the Continuum theme. I, not a member of said company, but with permission and co-operation from them, refactored the entire theme and created a child theme (25+ hours of work) so that it could allow for multiple review types since so many people wanted them. I'm now offering that refactored theme plus child theme at the low low price of $40.

Each time OSWC updates the normal continuum theme, I incorporate those changes into the refactor. If you have previously purchased the refactor, you get those updates for free!

You have to purchase the Continuum theme from theme forest in order to purchase the refactor. You are really purchasing the license to use the continuum theme from theme forest, then when you purchase the refactor, you are purchasing the code changes that you use under the license.

Hey there,

I just purchased Continuum today after eyeballing it (and these forums) for a while and before I purchased the refactor, I had a question about taxonomies.

The default reviews included in Continuum have three taxonomies each. Will purchasing the refactor allow me to create new review categories with more than three taxonomies each? By that same line, can I change the existing review categories to add extra taxonomies to the ones already in place?

You can have as many or as few taxonomies as you want per review type.

If you modify the parent theme you can change the built in review types, but you will have to do this again each time you update (when new updates come out). There *might* be a way to do this from the child theme, but I haven't ever looked into it. If this part is important to you I can look into it.

It would be nice if you felt like looking into it, as the less re-modding I'd have to end up doing, the better.

Also, what's the rough estimate of how much time it'll take, with the help of the refactor, to set up a whole new review type from scratch? Also, does it allow space to use our own icons for them, much like the headphone/game controller/etc ones for the existing review types?

I can do it in about 5~10 minutes, but I've done it a whole bunch of times. Shouldn't take more than an hour.

What kind of time/effort investment is required for each new review type that I would create on my own? I'd only really be interested in getting this theme if I can get the refactor to work for me. I'd like to be able to create my own review types at my whim, rather than have to pay for each one.

I'm not a total idiot when it comes to PHP code, but I'm much better at editing than creating code...if you know what I mean. I'm mostly doing my website as a hobby to slowly learn this stuff over time.

It's not really hard at all. I knocked out about 4 new types in less than an hour. It's mainly cutting and pasting code and changing a few values. The refactor is pretty well documented and explains how to do it easily. Well worth it, imo.

Thanks! That's very good to know. I can deal with code, so long as someone tells me how. The fixing it later to make it look exactly how I want it part is where the learning comes in. But to make my site functional, I need to be able to have custom review types that work "out of the box".

I am not sure what I did wrong but my whole site is screwed up now...
When trying to access the admin panel I get this
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '[', expecting T_STRING in /home/survival/public_html/wp-content/themes/continuum-child/functions.php on line 16

I think I know where I might have messed up.... I unzipped the content of the refractor to my continuum dir instead of just unzipping the folder...

I think I lost everything and I am not very happy about it... I can't even make any changes though because I can't get into my admin to even delete the theme and then reupload...

ok I was able to re install the them and I see everything is still there.

I changed all the lines the my new review type

I am still confused about the taxinomies and what they are for and what I need to add here.

$this->taxonomies = array();

My custom review type is Trip Reviews, for like hiking trip reviews. So what would I add as a taxinomy?

Also, once I so all of this how do I get it to work? What is the next step?
I activated the child theme and found out quickly that was the wrong thing to do as I get that error on line 16 again and have to delete the child them and redo everything... I looked under reviews in the continuum options thinking that I would have a new review there that I could activate but its not there.

Any help would be appreciated.

Where do I find the custom review in my admin panel? Right now I only have Product Reviews activated which I am basically using for my Gear Reviews. I was hoping by purchasing this and modifying the php that I would then has a Trip Reviews section in the admin area as well...

Is this correct?

You have to open "Appearance" > "Continuum Options" > "Reviews" > Expand "General Settings" and check the box next to your review type to make your review show up where you expect it with the others in the dashboard.

Oh, yes, go to the themes page and activate the child theme. The continuum refactor theme should be in a folder named "continuum" in your themes directory and the child theme should be in a folder called "continuum-child" in your themes directory.

Ah, there is the key! You have to remove the braces [].

There shouldn't be braces around any of the names.

np, ok I took out all the brackets...
It was then showing an error on line 17 so I compared it to the example child theme you showed me
then I decided to just replace it with yours to see if it would work...

It works as far as not getting an error goes but when I go to continuum options > reviews > general settings
I still only see

No, the contents of the continuum-refactor folder should go inside of the continuum folder (the refactor completely replaces continuum). That's almost definitely the issue.

Here is what it says in the "instructions"

Whichever, you must unzip it to a "folder" inside of the themes directory named “continuum” or else edit the child theme’s stylesheet (line 8 ) to match wherever you put the parent theme.

Yup that was def the problem!
I think if it was worded something like extract the refactor files into the continuum folder it would have helped me a little more. Funny thing is I actually started to do it that way and then went back and read the instructions more carefully and then did it the other way lol oh well it is working now...

I'm trying to install the refactor for a client's site; the client already purchased and sent me the code and instructions.

I got the child theme set up, but after activating it, the navigation menus on the site do not look right. It looks like the background images are not rendering, perhaps, as well as the menus taking up multiple lines with the refactor activated.

I've taken it down for now, this is a live site, so I can't ;post a link unfortunately. There's a line in the instructions that I was wondering if I could get more info on:

"Also, switching to this theme will reset all of your menus, so make note of what your menu settings are so that you can put them back in place (it won’t destroy your menus, it will just disable them)."

Could this have anything to do with it? If not, are there any other suggestions? Are all the styles and JS the same in the refactor as in the "regular" Continuum? I've compared several files and they are coming up the same, so I can't track down the issue. All images are also in the folders I would expect.

When I installed the Refactored version, the menus were still in the admin section. All I had to do was move the menus (in the admin) back to what main sections they should be in and that was it... they showed up perfectly on the front end.

I'm having a problem with the front end on Firefox where there are little vertical lines between the grey menu bar and dark grey panel where the spotlight is held.

Yes, that line in the instructions is probably the key. Go into your menus page and see what you settings are with them working. Then, enable the child theme. Then, go back to your menus page and put your settings back to what they were when they were working. Installing a new theme completely wipes out your menus, so you have to restore them after the theme is installed.

CoffeSocial:

Open Chrome, right click the little line, select "inspect element" and then look at the css on the right. Browse up and down the dom tree if you don't see any suspect CSS. I'm better there is a little line image that is still set too tall, or a wrapper div around a line image set too tall or something. Every time a client asks me to shorten the menu bar, this happens to me and I can never remember exactly which element it is that is causing it, but it's there somewhere.

Thanks for the reply about the menu settings. I was looking in the wrong location; as soon as I found the correct spot, I found the solution.

I have a new question, though, if you could help with a little more troubleshooting: my client can't get any reviews to publish in the new review type. We made a type called Restaurant.

I have the review type enabled in the Continuum Options - Reviews - General Settings area. He was able to create a review and get it all set up, and in the admin area it shows as Published, but if you visit the page there's just a 404 message: http://mispymag.com/Restaurant-review/t ... ports-bar/

if it's worth mentioning, I did notice that the review type's name is being cut off from links in the backend. For example, if I hover over various links in the admin for, say, the Music Reviews, I'd see a link like this:
http:....edit.php?post_type=con_music_reviews

But for Restaurant reviews, the name is always cut off, like so:
http:....edit.php?post_type=con_restaurant_revie

The "w" and "s" are missing. Is the review name too long? Does that have any effect? It is cut off in every post_type call in every link I see.

Do you have any quick thoughts on what I should check for troubleshooting? I'm wondering if there are other settings besides installing the custom theme that I didn't know to check. I was not the developer who initially installed Continuum for this site, so I'm not very familiar with it. Thanks in advance.

Visit the permalinks page and click "save", should resolve your issue.

Also, the names are auto-truncated after 20 chars because WP can't handle custom post type/taxonomy names over that length. Continuum (mostly transparently, except you noticed

) automagically takes care of all of this for you.

You probably forgot to specify one of your taxonomies as the "primary" taxonomy. At least one of your taxonomies need to have a third parameter specified as "true". ie:
$type = new ConTaxonomy($this->safe_name, 'Type', true);

Thanks for the great work you have done on adding the custom review types. I actually have no problems with them at all but I am not sure if it is something to do with the refactor theme itself. I have chosen layout C for the archive pages and now my ratings with the stars is all the way in the top right hand corner of the page. All plugins are disabled and I can't seem to work it out on my own. Not sure if this is a question for you or not because it seems to work in the continuum theme but not after I added the refactor theme. Thanks for any help you can give.

Hrm... It looks like you may have made some customizations to the Continuum theme itself, which will not carry over to the Refactor. You will have to determine what they were and apply them to the refactor.

Thanks for the response. I seem to have found the problem. Inside the taxonomy.php file I found where it was calling the rating to appear outside of the div class "article-image".

"<?php con_show_rating($ratings[0], $ratings[1], $ratings[2]); // show the stars or hearts ?> " on line 585 seems to be in the wrong place.

I removed that line and added into line 548. So that it now looks like the following starting on line 547.

Now I am not totally sure this is correct but it has fixed my problem and I figured I would pass the information on just in case it was an issue.

Thank you for your purchase. The refactor has it's own release cycle and several of the 1.9 changes are already included in the refactor. The rest of the 1.9 changes will be included automatically within the next few weeks and you will be notified through your wordpress dashboard when this occurs. it will be an automatic update.

The custom review types sounds nice, but given I could make custom post types (with/without the aid of plugins), is there anything in the refactor that means the $40 would be a good investment?

If you can make your own custom post types then I would skip the refactor. Not sure yet when 2.0 will be out. The developer who is working on it is swamped with other projects right now. We'll try to update this forum as often as possible on the matter.

Swagger gives all the functionality of the refactor and a lot more, so if you are OK with the design of Swagger, I would say go for it, since the only reason to stay with Continuum is if you prefer its design over Swagger.

Great (sigh)... Almost 1 year & $80 dollars later and my refactor is still not up cause you guys want another $25 to assist with that and yet you released a robust Swagger theme with unlimited review settings included all for $40? I mean at least you can do is get me up and running. I'm sorry for the small rant but this monopoly with the Continuum theme is not cool imo. Pretty much a slap in the face now.

I hope to see in the next refactor update an automatic process for reviews like the swagger theme as well some new cool features.

I already understood that... But Continuum and Swagger are yours. What's stopping you from upgrading your c-theme to have automatic reviews?(long requested before refactor came along). It would be a moot point if I could actually get my refactor theme up and running with the reviews types I need. All I'm asking is that the refactor gets automatic reviews similar to swagger or that the dev of refactor can in the least get me up and running with my custom reviews. Again, I apologize.

No worries. What's stopping me is that it would require lots and lots of hours of development work for me to do this, of which I currently don't have. Not talking like 5 - 10 hours, I'm talking maybe 30 - 40, and I can't justify taking that hit in development time ($3k - $4k in revenue for me, at the very minimum). I figure if there is anyone who really wants continuum (instead of swagger) and really wants unlimited custom post types, there at least is a solution out there, thanks to another developer, and that is the refactor. And spending $80 on something that robust is still better than any other deal out there (besides Swagger). I'm sorry you're having trouble with setting it up. I would try to answer your questions and help you out if I was the developer of that code.

Thanks. As the dev has not queued in here for a while, is there any knowledge on the long awaited update that a few has posted about above for the past few months? Also, you are saying that I have two separate licenses, one for continumm and one for refactor... Can I swap my continuum for swagger if an update for my refactor is not released in the next month?

The refactor update will include all previous 1.X updates to Continuum.

No promises on timeframes (I was expecting a February release for Continuum 2, but, we see how that turned out), but I will post updates as I have them (Here, on my blog or twitter).

There are 20 teams in the EPL and we have writers for each team. So I am wondering if your refractor could be used for what we want.

Basically we want each team to have their own post type so basically instead of "Movie Review" and all the others like Music and Games etc. We would want to have "Arsenal FC Articles", "Blackburn Rovers Articles", "Chelsea Articles" etc using all the premier league teams. We would probably need to have 1 spare post type for the relegated clubs, if you are not info football, then 3 clubs get relegated each season and 3 new clubs get promoted, so each season we would need to add 3 more teams which could just replace the existing ones and the 21st one we would have we would put all the relegated clubs into that post type, or just keep growing the list, whatever is easier.

We don't need Genre, Director, Actor and things like that - just categories and tags. Or maybe the director could be replaced by "player" we we do articles about individual players?

In turn would it then be possible to restrict access on a club by club basis? So basically only Arsenal writers can post in the arsenal section? If this is too hard, too costly or takes too long then we will leave it as it is nothing major, the writers are pretty sensible.

A big reason for wanting to do this is because I see each review type has their own sidebar and can have their own widgets to suit. Which is great because we could have specific team based widgets and adverts tailored to that team. I did start using something called "Ad Injection" which is a plugin that basically injects HTML into wordpress, it has a widget which you can have it so it only displays when certain categories, tags, authors etc are used. So I was going to use that to write some team based information but all the generic post widgets would still appear so it would be better if we used the custom post types in some way.

So basically what does your refractor do? Does it allow me to do all that and give instructions on how to duplicate it etc? I would only need to do 1 and instructions for 1 and I could duplicate the other 20 myself, I'm novice at PHP although I'm confident when following instructions etc.

1) I cant see where I can make my own categories.
2) I have to enable the child theme for everything work?
3) I can create a User in my wordpress platform for you to help me?

Also, just to give a little insight into why this is taking so long (because I know I would be really confused/irritated if I were in your shoes) I basically only have 2 hours every Thursday to work on this (as opposed to the ~12 hours a week I used to have). But, this week and last week I have been out of town on business, so, was unable to complete the upgrade. So, the projected release date of next Thursday is based on my plan to be able to complete the integration of Continuum 1.9 through 1.12 on that day. If not, then it will almost surely be the following Thursday.

Continuum Refactor 12.0525 has been launched. You can download it the same way you downloaded the theme originally from here.

You will not need to download a new version of the child theme or update it in any way. This is only for the parent theme (the one that goes in the continuum-refactor folder under wp-content/themes/, not the continuum-child folder).

Refactor 2.0 has been released!

You no longer *need* the child theme. If you have modified the child theme for purposes other than defining new custom review types then I recommend you go ahead and keep the child theme; otherwise, just get rid of it.

One thing that is a little annoying is that if you currently use an old version of the refactor, you will have to re-define all of your custom themes in the admin menu (the child theme no longer works for this). If enough people request it, I can attempt to make a translator script that will read your custom review type settings from your child theme and spit out the required JSON string for the admin menu (please let me know if you want this. It's going to be a few hours work that I didn't want to do if people don't care/want/need it).
